Sadly we post notice of the passing on Christmas Day of Dr. Howard Gamble, our executive director and mentor in dentistry.
Howard Richard Gamble, DMD, age 74, of Sheffield, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 25, 2015, after an extended illness. The family will
receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, December 29, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Sheffield. The service will follow
at 2:00 p.m., with Jim Warren, Raymond Isbell, and Chad Holder officiating. A private committal will follow in Sheffield Oakwood Cemetery.
Dr. Gamble was born in Florence, Alabama, and was a proud graduate of Coffee High School and the University of Alabama at Birmingham Dental School. He
was a devoted Christian, having served for 45 years as a deacon at church. Dr. Gamble was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Howard was also
very active in his profession and in the community. He was a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, having served as National President and in
other leadership positions. Howard also served on the Alabama Board of Dental Examiners. He served on the state and local policy boards of the United
Cerebral Palsy Center. Howard served seventeen years in public service, with those being Mayor of Sheffield, Police and Fire Commissioner, City
Councilman, and Colbert County Commissioner. He also was a member of the Red Elephant Club, having served as secretary.
Howard was preceded in death by his father, Claud Howard Gamble.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 47 years, Sherry Gamble; mother, Lou Ella Gamble; son, Wesley Richard Gamble; daughter, Allison Gamble McWilliams
and husband Danny B. McWilliams, Jr.; brother, Robert Leon Gamble and wife Sarah McKelvey Gamble; sister, Julia Gamble Holley and husband Bobby Holley;
and four grandchildren, Abby and Trey McWilliams, and Hannah and Emily Kemp.
Pallbearers will be John Adams, Dr. Bobby Babb, Dr. Bill Chesser, Dr. Gordon Isbell, Michael Isbell, and Dr. Gary Myers. Honorary pallbearers include
Bob Atwell Jr., Bobby Holley, Dr. Bobby Moore, Dr. Jack McLendon, Dr. Doug Beckham, Dr. T. Bob Davis, and the deacons of the church.
